Strictly Come Dancing’s Richie Anderson broke down in tears as he discussed his time on the BBC dance show with It Takes Two host Rylan Clark. The radio presenter, who was partnered with 2021 winner Giovanni Pernice, became the latest celebrity to leave the competition on Sunday, October 9.
After showing him clips of his time on the show, Rylan asked Richie what it was like to appear on Strictly and he emotionally replied: “I’m just so proud to have met [his Strictly co-stars],“ before breaking down in tears.
Giovanni, who was by his side on the sofa, told Rylan: “You should see the effort that he puts in the room every day. He really wanted to get it right,” before telling Richie that he should “come back for a Christmas special at some point”. Concluding the interview, Rylan said: “It has been so lovely seeing someone come on this show and love every single minute of it.” In leaving the competition, Richie became the second celebrity to do so with Loose Women star Kaye Adams booted out first.
During the weekend’s shows, Richie and Giovanni danced the Samba to Hakuna Matata from The Lion King. The dance couple received a judges score of 27 - the same result as Ellie Simmonds and pro dancer Nikita Kuzmin. They faced Fleur East and Vito Coppola in the dance off.
The 34-year-old’s early exit in the competition has been widely criticised. Richie’s Breakfast Show colleague, Zoe Ball, called the decision “totally undeserved”. You can read more about that here.
