Matt Goss 'truly heartbroken' to leave Strictly as he weeps over elimination

Matt Goss shed 'authentic' tears during his Strictly Come Dancing exit earlier this evening [October 16].

The BBC series is 'always the go-to show for fake tears' according to body language expert Judi James, but the singer seemed genuine as he stood next to Nadiya Bychkova and wiped his tears away, after the Strictly judges opted to save Kym Marsh and Graziano Di Prima following the dreaded dance-off.

Matt had found himself at the bottom of the judges' leaderboard on Saturday night, and his performance was praised slightly, but also met with critique.

Following the public vote, Kym also found herself in the bottom two alongside Matt and was forced to dance again with her pro partner Graziano, while Matt and dance partner Nadiya had to do the same.

As it came down to the judges' decision, they voted unanimously to save Kym and Graziano over Matt and Nadiya - a decision that moved the singer to tears as he became the third celebrity contestant to leave the dancefloor for good.

"Strictly is always the go-to show for fake tears but Matt Goss showed what the authentic sort look like as he found himself unanimously voted off the show after being in the dance-off with Kym and Graziano," Judi says of Matt's reaction to being voted off the show.

The singer showed genuine emotion during his final appearance on the BBC show (BBC)

"Unlike the celebrities who can often dry-eye cry for effect or weep to win votes, Matt looked genuinely moved by Nadia’s small speech to him after his rather gentle and humble thanks to the judges and the other contestants."

The body languages continues, revealing some tell-tale signs the singer displayed: "Matt’s tears were part of a congruent display because he fought to hold them back rather than squeezing them out for effect.

"The signals of genuine emotions welling up came from three key cues: the muscle that began to work away in his jawline as Nadia told him that it had been an honour to work with a ‘musical icon’, and the hand that he kept stuffed in his pocket in a gesture of self-control.

"Then there was the change in his breathing and swallowing as Nadia placed a hand on his chest to tell him that it was a ‘privilege to get to know Matt for who you really are’."

Judi adds: "Matt seems like a sensitive and rather private man and it was this line that set the tears spilling down his face. He dabbed them away and breathed out, wiped his nose and sucked his lips in to control himself.

"Nadia added that ‘not many people know you’ but it seemed as though he had really won the hearts of the other contestants and that the effect of being on Strictly will have been a very positive one for him personally, despite his early waltz out the door.

"Matt was expected to arrive as a big star with a big ego but he proved the critics wrong, having thrown himself into the competition and taken every bit of criticism or dance-offs under the chin without a word or body language cue of complaint.
