Strictly's Kym Marsh has 'run out of emotional resilience', says body language expert

Kym Marsh could have "run out of emotional resilience" on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Coronation Street star admitted she had had a tough day in the run up to the BBC One Latin and ballroom show today, where she closed the show with a Quickstep to Ballroom Blitz by Sweet, celebrating Strictly Come Dancing. Kym's lack of confidence was noted by the four judges; Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood and Anton du Beke.

She admitted to hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman that she had had a difficult day, as they all heaped praise on her and encouraged her. She scored a total of 27 out of 40 for her routine.

Body language expert Judi James has told The Mirror that there was a very evident lack of confidence for Kym today, and that she wasn't able to hide it. Judi warned that Kym could be at risk of leaving if she finds herself in the dance-off again.

"Was it fear of being in the dance-off again that made Kim’s smile disappear and these rituals of vulnerability appear? Last week she appeared philosophical and upbeat about the dance-off, saying someone has to do it, so if it was the cause of this dramatic change in her body language it might have been a delayed response," Judi shared exclusively to The Mirror.

"Resilience is everything on Strictly though. Kim is such a good dancer but if she has run out of emotional resilience and if she is in the dance off again tomorrow night she could be in trouble this time."

Judi also revealed that Kym seemed to look to the whole team rather than just her pro partner Graziano di Prima as she spoke of her self-doubt and struggles throughout the day and in the lead up to the show.

She added: "Anton mentioned her ‘self-doubt’ and, strangely, she didn’t seem to be turning to Graziano as most of the celebrities do to their pro dance partners when their confidence starts to ebb.

Earlier in the week, she opened up about her imposter syndrome (BBC/Kieron McCarron)

"Instead, Kim waved an arm of recognition and thanks around at the other dancers on the balcony, claiming the ‘team here picked me up’. Her signature smile dropped as she thanked them twice rather than, unusually, primarily thanking Graziano."

Judi believes Kym has had a severe knock to her confidence today, just days after she admitted to suffering with imposter syndrome.

She explained: "We see the pro dancers shoring up their partners’ confidence levels all the time and it was telling that Kym had gone to the rest of the team for help like that. She also seemed to refer to several of them with her thanks, which suggested she had been very open with her struggles during the day, meaning she might have had quite a severe problem with her confidence."
