Strictly's Kym Marsh bravely shares tragic inspiration behind song choice as she honours late son

Kym Marsh had the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom on its feet on Saturday night as she performed to a song that honoured her late son Archie.

While she has been in the bottom two alongside Graziano Di Prima once so far, former Hear'Say star and Coronation Street actress Kym is still up there in the odds as a potential Strictly winner. After Tess Daly announced that Kym and Graziano, the camera cut to the couple in rehearsals and it was then that Kym opened up on the tragic inspiration behind the song choice for her American Smooth, Snow Patrol classic Chasing Cars.

Sitting down with Graziano, she said: "That song is very special to us as a family, because it reminds me of my son Archie, who I gave birth to prematurely an, unfortunately, he died shortly after he was born." She added: "I feel, that by doing this dance, not only is it going to be in memory of Archie, but it's also hopefully, might get people talking about their own experiences as it's the right road to putting your life back together."

Later on in the VT, pro Graziano admitted he'd given Kym a "full on routine," and, sadly, for them both, the judges picked up on a few too many errors in their live show performance, with both Shirley and Motsi picking up that something had gone wrong with a lift, after a very promising start, with Motsi telling them: "It started so wonderfully and I just needed it to go through all the walk at this stage of the competition." Giving her critique, head judge Shirley praised Kym's "beautiful, personal connection to the dance," going on to give a 8, with Craig and Anton offering the same song and Motsi a 7, giving them a total of 31.

Relating to Kym's experiences, one Strictly viewer tweeted: "Bawling my eyes out at that. My son lived 11 days (in may2019), and hearing that back story made me emotional before they even started. I never really follow celeb gossip so didn't know kym had lost a child; what's she's continued on to do is quite inspirational."

And, equally emotional, another reacted: "My sister had a full term still born baby boy, so I am so emotional to hear Kym Marsh's story. My heart goes out to anyone who has gone through this."
