Strictly's Kym Marsh admits a panic attack almost made her quit the show

Kym Marsh has admitted nerves almost got the better of her in the opening few weeks of Strictly Come Dancing.

The former Hear'Say singer, 46, admitted she made a "nervous" start on the hit BBC dance contest before turning things around with a number of dazzling displays on the ballroom floor.

The singer-turned-actress has continued to win the plaudits alongside professional dancer Graziano Di Prima, but confessed she almost threw the towel in after panicking in rehearsals.

The Corrie star opened up on how an anxiety attack left her frozen and unable to perform during a warm-up, but praised her dance partner for helping her through it.

Speaking to The Sun, Kym said: "It just came over me, almost out of nowhere, and I couldn’t carry on."

And she openly admitted it's something she's often suffered from. "It’s something I don’t mind talking about because I know it can affect anyone at any time," she continued.

"Sometimes it has been ages (since an attack) and then suddenly one just hits. Everyone thinks that because you’re on the telly you must be amazingly confident, but the truth is that I’m not always and this is how that comes out."

She confessed she wasn't entirely sure what caused the incident, but believes it could've been harsh comments by the judges a week earlier.

Kym said she "went to pieces" before doubting whether she could carry on performing on the show. And she went on to say she's had therapy for her anxiety in the past, but knows it can still creep up at any time.

"There were a lot of tears," she said. "And a few of the other guys had to step in to help me and they cancelled the rehearsal at that point."

She held special praise for Graziano and fellow competitor Hamza Yassin, who she said was especially kind with is attempts to calm her down.

Wildlife presenter Hamza has been winning the plaudits of fans for his dancing too and goes into the latest round of dances as one of the show's favourites.

He recently gushed at how his performances had led to many potential partners sliding into his DMs. However, he confessed that his busy work schedule often scuppers any chance her may have of romance.
