Strictly's Helen Skelton terrified as man hurls glass bottle on Leeds night out

TV star Helen Skelton was left cowering in fear after a glass bottle was thrown near her during a night out in Leeds.

The 39-year-old presenter and mum of three had been partying with Strictly Come Dancing pals and was forced to shelter in an alleyway until cops arrived and arrested a suspect at 3am on Friday. She was with her co-stars who are touring the UK with the dancing competition.

However, the evening took an unpleasant turn when a man hurled a bottle in Helen's direction. A photograph of the incident shows her recoiling in fear as it lands by her feet. The star had been out with a Strictly backing dancer, Paralympian Ellie Simmonds, Tyler West, Molly Rainford and Neil Jones.

The trouble occurred as the party returned to their hotel and they found themselves caught up in the middle of a late-night brawl. A source told The Mirror the group had been "having a great time" but were left stunned when things "kicked off".

The source added: "Two groups of lads were fighting and bottles and glasses went flying, none of the Strictly people were involved in the fighting, they were innocent passers-by caught up in it. A bottle came close to hitting Helen, smashing right by her feet, but she jumped out of the way." Helen hid in an alley until the fight died down and members of West Yorkshire Police intervened and arrested a 35-year-old man.

A spokesman for the force said: "At 2.56am on Friday, police were called to a report of a fight involving a group of males in Duncan Street and Call Lane in Leeds city centre. Officers attended and arrested a man on suspicion of affray. He remains in custody and enquiries are ongoing. There were no reports of any injuries."
