Strictly’s Hamza says he does 'steps in his sleep' but still fears each week is his last

DJ Hamza Yassin admits he's 'living and breathing Strictly' — even going over steps in his sleep but still doesn't feel 'safe' in the competition.

And last night's performance with pro partner Jowita Przystal should have given him a boost as the pair pulled in 38 points for his emotional couple’s choice remix of Jerusalema and dedicated to his Sudanese and African heritage.

Speaking about his doubts, he told the PA news agency: “Every week I think this is going to be the week that we are out because I am struggling to get the steps. But sometimes it goes really well.

“We never really think of, ‘We are going to the final’. We just focus on the week that is up and for us to perform well in that particular week. And if we do well, sweet, we are on to next week.”

He admitted on-the-night nerves play a big part in his unwillingness to believe himself and Przystal can go all the way in the competition adding: “Like always, never confident. I’m stepping out in front of the judges and the nerves sometimes get the best of me.

“But you have got to be somewhat confident to try and go out there and do it."

And he admits part of the reason is due to the tight timescale — just four days — to learn 'something' new.

But he has found a somewhat bizarre way to keep his steps in his head as he tells how he even found himself dreaming his steps and woke up to find his feet moving.

“I do it in my sleep,” he said. “I’m dreaming about the dance and steps and stuff.”

Clarifying what he means, he added: “Not sleep walking, but dreaming about the steps and I can see my feet doing them.

“But I woke up in the middle of the night doing the steps. So yeah, it just happens.

“Because you’re engrossed in it, you’re feeling it, all your energy is going into it, you’re thinking about it.

“Even when you’re going to bed you go, ‘I should have done that step a little bit better’, or something along those lines.

The Strictly star has lost roughly a kilo a week on the show due to his training schedule (PA)

And all those rehearsals have had an affect on the wildlife cameraman's waist line as he's dropped an astonishing amount of weight since joining Strictly Come Dancing, after nine weeks.

Hamza said to OK!: “Yeah, so I was 118.6kg when I first started Strictly. Now I’m 112.5kg. So it’s roughly a kilo a week. I feel fitter, healthier. I have more of a spring in my step.“

The Strictly Come Dancing results show airs tonight (Sunday) at 7.20pm.
