Strictly's Amy Dowden performs one-off street show in Cardiff

Welsh Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden, who shot to fame on the BBC show, has performed in a one-off special performance in Cardiff. Dancing alongside Loyd Griffiths, Amy performed under the new Christmas light installation in Cardiff city centre.

Dancing under the new The Light of Winter, a free light and sound installation in St John's Garden, Amy performed to Elin Fflur’s version of the Welsh folksong Ar Lan y Mor. Dressed in a gown from local business Pretty Perfect Boutique Amy danced under the twinkling lights.

The light installation, which features colourful lights hanging down and plays a version of the Welsh folksong Ar Lan y Mor recorded by St John’s Choir, is free to visit and is open every day from 8am to 9pm. The experience is best enjoyed after it becomes dark.

Speaking about dancing in Cardiff Amy, who was born and grew up in Caerphilly, said: It was so wonderful to dance under the light of this breathtaking installation, and I can’t wait to see people enjoy it during the winter months."

She added: "This winter, everyone is feeling the effects of the cost-of-living crisis, so it’s really important that everyone has the opportunity to access joyful and fun activities. What’s even better is that the installation has been inspired by Welsh tradition and that music – especially the powerful words of Ar Lan y Mor – is such a key part of the experience."

Earlier in 2022 Amy celebrated her hen-do in Cardiff before marrying her long-term partner Ben James in the Gower. During her hen-do, she visited The Parkgate Hotel and Dirty Martini and Amy also purchased her wedding dress from Cardiff business Laura May Bridal.

Amy married Ben in a gorgeous ceremony in the Gower which was attended by celebrity guests including McFly frontman Tom Fletcher and Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood.
