Aljaz Škorjanec has refused to rule out a shock return to Strictly Come Dancing, after being put on the spot about the possibility of going back on the show he walked away from last year.
Strictly fans were left devastated last year when Aljaz, who won the Glitterball trophy in his first year as a pro, alongside celeb partner Abbey Clancy, announced that he was quitting after nine years. He broke the news in an Instagram post. Talking about calling time on Strictly, Aljaz said: "On a beautiful sunny day in May 2013 one phone call changed my life forever!
"It went like this... we would like to offer you a position on @bbcstrictly as a professional dancer. A dream became a reality and it was the biggest opportunity for a 23 year old boy from Slovenia."
He added: ""It didn’t matter how many beautiful ballrooms I performed in during my competitive career, stepping onto the sacred Strictly floor was the most nervous I had ever bee," before revealing he'd made the decision months earlier that Strictly 2021 would be his final series.
The prospect of Aljaz ever going back on Strictly was raised as he and other half Janette Manrara appeared as guests on Wednesday's Lorraine. As host Loraine Kelly remarked that Aljaz, while no longer a pro was 'still a big part' of the show, he interrupted her to reply "Maybe one day again! Yeah there's so many parts on that show - there's dancers, judges, presenters so you never know."
Reacting with delight to Aljaz, who also partnered Sara Davies in the BBC ballroom, being on board with the idea of going back on Strictly,. Lorraine responded: ""I would love to have you back, we miss you. So if you could squeeze it in, it'll be lovely! Judging that show would be something, wouldn't it? I would like that."
As well as being one of the presenters of Strictly's sister show, Aljaz's wife Janette also hosted the show's live arena tour for the second year in a row, as the cast performed at packed out venues across the country.
