Strictly fans say same thing as James Bye becomes beekeeper for Halloween special

Strictly Come Dancing fans had a similar response as James Bye took to the BBC ballroom floor on Saturday to perform his routine with professional dance partner Amy Dowden.

Strictly Come Dancing embraced the spooky season as the BBC One ballroom dancing show returned for a Halloween spectacular.

Hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman introduced the Halloween special under the watchful eye of judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke.

However, when the EastEnders actor took to the stage to perform the Charleston to Bumble Bee by Lavern Baker, a number of viewers did not understand how the beekeeper theme of the song was particularly spooky.

Taking to Twitter, one fan joked: “When you leave it last minute for a Halloween costume and you end up as a beekeeper.”

Another savagely wrote: “That classic Halloween trope…a beekeeper,” as another chimed: “Failed to see where the beekeeper look tied in with the Halloween theme…”

Another asked: “No harm to James but how exactly is a beekeeper Halloween themed, I ask?”

Ahead of the show, the BBC released a video revealing the contestants' songs and dances for the upcoming Halloween special, with tunes ranging from Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill to the Hocus Pocus hit I Put A Spell on You as well as the Scooby Doo theme.

The sixth week of Strictly again saw the leaderboard shake-up following a number of shock exits so far this series, meaning nobody is safe from elimination as the remaining couples danced live for viewers' votes.

This comes after the Strictly dance floor said goodbye to another celebrity last Sunday night, with Jayde Adams losing to Molly Rainford in the dreaded dance-off and becoming the fourth contestant to leave the competition.

After finding herself in the bottom two, Jayde and her partner Karen Haeur danced their Charleston to The Ballad Of Barry and Freda (Let’s Do It) whilst Molly and Carlos Gu performed their Couples Choice routine to the Grange Hill Theme Tune.

As host Tess consoled Jayde and Karen, the comedienne admitted she had had the best time on the show, and heaped praise on her friend and dance partner Karen, insisting she got lucky to be partnered with her.

She said: “I’ve done shows before, and nothing holds a candle to the way that this show is run.

“It is an incredible thing to be a part of as a performer, we are so looked after, and in this industry where so many people aren’t looked after, this show is incredible.”

*Strictly Come Dancing returns on Sunday at 7.20pm on BBC One.
