Strictly fans concerned as they beg Will Mellor to 'go home' as he battles sickness

Strictly Come Dancing star Will Mellor was left in tears on Saturday as he performed live on the show, despite suffering with illness this week.

As Will shared the personal link to his chosen song, viewers were distracted by how poorly he sounded and looked on the live show.

The Coronation Street actor had a croaky voice and kept coughing, after he and pro dance partner Nancy Xu took on the Rumba to the track The Joker and The Queen by Ed Sheeran, featuring Taylor Swift.

Before his dance, Will explained about his personal link to his performance - as well as the fact he was not well at all.

Will vowed to carry on and do his dance, but concerned viewers believed he should have been at home in bed after hearing him talk.

Will barely had a voice as he reacted to the judges' feedback, which was mainly critical of his latest routine.

Partner Nancy, like viewers, referenced the fact that he was unwell so it was huge that he'd even made it to the live show - with fans calling the scores "too harsh".

It's when Will went to speak to host Claudia Winkleman though that fans really realised how unwell Will had been, as he sounded like he had a cold, which he said was come sort of virus or bug.

Taking to Twitter, viewers urged the show to let him leave then and there for the night, so that he could get to bed.

Of course this isn't likely to be allowed unless he will be made exempt from the dance off, should he find himself in the bottom two.

One viewer said: "Poor old Will, he's really struggling tonight. Looks like he should be home in bed."

Another said: "poor Will. Obviously not well but didn't make an issue of it with the judges and they were very harsh. Well done Will."

A third tweeted: "Now let Will go to bed please bless him," as a fourth wrote: "Aww Will needs a nap, he doesn’t sound or look very well."

It followed fears he wouldn’t be able to perform at all, after he attended training on Monday, before being too unwell to continue and needed to head home to rest - and he said he had been 'laid up ever since'.

Posting on his Instagram and speaking to his 372k followers, the actor said in a video this week: "First of all, I want to apologise for the way I sound, I have not been well at all this week.

"I went into training Monday and I just had to go home because I was feeling poorly and I've been laid up ever since."

The star continued: "I got a bug, virus, whatever you want to call it and I was aching all over, it's horrible. If you've got it out there, I feel your pain because a lot of it is going around this time of year, these flu variants.

"I've just done Strictly It Takes Two and a lot of people have been commenting saying 'You sound really poorly,' so I wanted to just say thanks for your comments but I probably sound worse than I am because I've coughed my throat out.

"But yeah, I went into training for the first time today just to do a couple of hours because I've got to perform on Saturday night live so let's just hope I can get through it."

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday and Sundays on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
