Strictly 's head dressmaker has suffered a freak wrist injury after sewing too many sparkly outfits.
Seamstress Theresa Hewlett, 61, was taken to the BBC show’s on-site physio, diagnosed with a strained ligament and given a wrist brace.
She was told the injury had been caused by too much sewing – hardly surprising, given she and her 35-strong team put together 500 outfits using three million crystals and 500ft of feathers every series.
Theresa, who regularly gives fans a glimpse of what is going on backstage, posted a picture of her hand online and wrote: “Braced for action, bloody awkward!”
Later, responding to replies from concerned fans, she said: “Repetitive sewing injury! Turbo sewing! Sewing too much! Physio at Stricters thinks it is a strained ligament.”
Theresa has part of the Strictly team for 15 years. Injuries are not a new on the show, although it is far more common for the dancers to come a cropper.
TV presenter AJ Odudu, 34, had to pull out of last year’s final with a foot injury after she ripped a ligament during training the day before.
AJ described how a ligament in the arch of her foot was left “hanging by a thread”. She said at the time: “I literally fell to my knees. The pain level was through the roof.”
In 2016, I’m Outta Love singer Anastacia, 54, was forced to withdraw from the Strictly dance-off after ripping her double mastectomy scars in training.
And former footballer turned pundit Robbie Savage, 48, was hurt after a training mishap with partner Ola Jordan in 2011 – and ended up chipping his tooth.
“Two-and-a-half grand, it’s gonna cost me,” he said at the time. “I’m gonna send her the bill.”
