Strictly crew 'relieved' Nigel Harman pulled out due to injury due to his backstage 'mood swings'

The Strictly Come Dancing crew are said to be “relieved” following the shock exit of actor Nigel Harman due to his reported “mood swings” that would cause problems backstage.

According to The Sun, Casualty star Harman would “take himself very seriously” behind the scenes and his behaviour would create "bad feeling" with the crew.

Just hours before the live show on Saturday night, Harman sensationally quit the show due to injury

Reports suggest he was trying to perform a stunt in rehearsals when it went wrong, which left him with a rib injury.

The actor, 50, who was partnered with Katya Jones, 34, was forced to withdraw at the last minute.

A source told The Sun how Harman would “take himself very seriously”, adding: “So obviously he's very emotional if things don't go as he hoped. That often means that he can be like a bear with a sore head backstage.

“Viewers got a glimpse of that when he received disappointing scores for their quickstep in Blackpool.

“The crew and pros on the show are like a close family and the celebrities are welcomed into that. But if someone upsets that long-standing dynamic it can create bad feeling.”

The source referred to the moment Harman - who also appeared in Downton Abbey - stormed off the stage after his disappointing results from the judges during the Blackpool show

It came after his routine to Duke Ellington's It Don't Mean A Thing left the couple second from bottom with a score of 31 points out of 40.

In a video shared to social media, the star can be seen exiting the stage just seconds after cameras stopped rolling.

Representative for Harman have been contacted for comment.

The BBC has since hit back at the claims, with a source telling the Mail Online: "It is always sad when a contestant leaves the show, particularly when an injury is sustained.

"Nigel will be well missed by those who have worked alongside him on the show and everyone wishes him the very best and looks forward to seeing him at the final on Saturday 16th December."

Harman’s exit meant fans of the show took to Twitter to voice disappointment at Sunday's “pointless” and “boring” show.

Harman’s untimely departure meant there was no usual dance off. Instead, the scores from this week will be carried over to next Saturday’s show.

The Sunday night show instead featured a musical performance from Joss Stone, and interviews and video messages from celebs to fill the time.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “The results show is a bit pointless this week.”

Another added: “Tonight's whole Strictly Come Dancing show feels just pointless and boring now that there's no elimination or public vote this week.”

Saturday saw Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin score a perfect 40 for their Pasa Doble to Backstage Romance from Moulin Rogue The Musical.
