Strictly Come Dancing star teases huge return to BBC show a year after quitting

Aljaž Škorjanec has teased he could make a huge return to Strictly Come Dancing - just one year after quitting.

Last year, Alijaz confirmed he was stepping down from the role as a professional dancer on the BBC Latin and ballroom show, as the dancer admitted he made the decision that 2021 would be his last appearance "some time ago".

As he appeared on ITV's Lorraine this morning with his pregnant wife Janette Manrara, the ITV presenter quizzed him on whether he'd ever be back on the BBC programme, as he admitted he would never say never to a possible return.

Lorraine said: "You're still very much part of Strictly, although I know you're not in it all the time Alijaz," before he chimed in to add: "Maybe one day again! Yeah there's so many parts on that show - there's dancers, judges, presenters so you never know."

The presenter then went on to explain how much he was missed on the programme, sharing: "I would love to have you back, we miss you. So if you could squeeze it in, it'll be lovely! Judging that show would be something, wouldn't it? I would like that."

"Imagine that! I'd like that too," Alijaz added before Janette spoke about her role on the spin-off show, It Takes Two.

In a statement released last February, Alijaz spoke of the "opportunity and freedom" the show gave him.

"On a beautiful sunny day in May 2013 one phone call changed my life forever! It went like this... we would like to offer you a position on @bbcstrictly as a professional dancer. A dream became a reality and it was the biggest opportunity for a 23 year old boy from Slovenia. It didn’t matter how many beautiful ballrooms I performed in during my competitive career, stepping onto the sacred Strictly floor was the most nervous I had ever been," he began in a post on social media.

"A little while ago I made the tough decision that Strictly 2021 would be my last. The show has given me an opportunity and freedom to create and express myself in front of millions of people every weekend for the last 9 years."

He also had a sweet message for his fans: "And finally, thank YOU, the people that watch Strictly who have been so kind to me all these years. Every comment, vote, kind message never went unnoticed. You are the reason we all do it, thank you!"
