Strictly Come Dancing stars have become involved in something of an argument after comments were made towards some of the Russian stars of the show by an ex-professional. James Jordan, who appeared on Strictly from 2006 to 2013, posted a Tweet on Sunday morning (February 27) that appeared to hit out at some of his former Russian co-stars.
Taking to Twitter, James said: "I don’t see many of the Russian dancers I know and have even shared the Strictly dance floor with them openly speaking out about the war against Ukraine. But are still promoting themselves on social media - very disappointed. They know who they are - not 1 post about it."
James, who has become known over the years for his controversial comments, appeared to divide his followers with his remark. He then added to his earlier statement, by suggesting that the dancers in question may be 'brainwashed'.

He said: "If they are too scared to speak out against wrong then stay the f**k off social media for a while and stop with the self promotion during this horrific time. Have some respect Or …… maybe they are not speaking out because they are brainwashed too."
Shirley Ballas, head Strictly judge, replied to James' Tweet. Quoting what he said, Shirley said: "Dear James. Not sure who you follow and who follows you but many dancers I know have retweeted in support of the Ukraine and have felt shame at their own government, lots of help for their fellow dancers. Lots have spoken out and retweeted."
James then responded to Shirley, saying: "We clearly are talking about different dancers then".

Shirley continued to defend the dancers she follows: "It's heartbreaking but in our Russian Ukraine dance community the support has been overwhelming.
"Sadness, tears, massive help and support. I don’t know any one who has not reached out from the very top dancer to the beginners. Xxx hugs"
However, Shirley's response was something of a shock to James and followers involved in the conversation, given one of her Instagram stories the day before. On Saturday (February 26), Shirley posted on her Instagram story: "Dancers please, just for a few days show some sensitivity towards the suffering in Ukraine.
"You don't need to promote yourselves, your shows, competitions and teaching every single day... Your colleagues, students, competitors, and their families are in the middle of a shocking war and need your support...
"YOUR business can wait. Show some respect. We are one family."
James has said that his wife, Ola, who is from Poland, has taught him a lot about Russia as she has 'walked in [Ukraine's] shoes'. The pair have been together for 22 years.
