Nicola Adams and girlfriend Ella Baig announce birth of baby boy after miscarriage tragedy

Strictly Come Dancing star Nicola Adams and her girlfriend Ella Baig have announced they have welcomed their first child together, a baby boy.

The former professional boxer and Ella, 24, took to Instagram on Monday to share their baby news, uploading a sweet snap of their son's hands and feet.

"We are so excited to have welcomed our son into the world on Saturday morning at around 7am," they shared with Hello!

"Nothing prepares you for this moment in life but I am so overwhelmed with love and proud of Ella. We can’t wait to start this new chapter with baby Adams."

Nicola also took to her Instagram page to share a snap of their baby's feet as well as a selfie in the hospital.

"We are so excited to announce to the world that @babyadamsadventures has arrived," she said. "The first moment we laid eyes on you we felt an instant love and the strongest bond.

"We went to the moon and back to get you and we can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives watching you grow".

In the snap, the couple - dressed in hospital gowns - beamed for the camera as Nicola leaned over Ella while she laid down on the bed.

The couple announced they were expecting a baby back in February this year.

Before the birth, the 39-year-old boxer said she was 'excited and nervous' about becoming a mother.

The couple called their baby boy a "fighter" after they started their fertility journey in 2019 and had four rounds of IVF, with Ella pregnant using Nicola's egg and a sperm donor.

Strictly star Nicola told Hello! Magazine: "It’s super cool. I’m excited, happy, nervous and just wondering what to expect. It feels really good to finally have a baby on the way. All the ups and downs were worth it in the end."

Ella suffered a miscarriage after the couple’s first round of IVF treatment as she unknowingly had an underactive thyroid which can “dramatically impact” a healthy pregnancy, the couple had announced previously.

The model, who showed off her blossoming baby bump in a loved-up photoshoot, told the publication at the time: "I think it’s safe to say the baby is a fighter, it’s definitely an active baby.

"From about 17 weeks I was feeling kicks and whenever we went for a scan, I don’t even know what it was doing, perhaps backflips."

Ella revealed she hoped her pregnancy journey with their son helps other couples who are struggling to conceive.

In February, they shared the pregnancy news with a joint post on social media of a photo of them and their ultrasound scan.

Sharing the exciting news, they said: "We're so excited to announce that our family is expanding. After what feels like a lifetime, we can finally say we're going to be parents!"

They further commented in the post: "We're so excited to share this magical journey with you all, the ups, the downs everything in between. Welcome to the world little one."
