Strictly Come Dancing's Matt Goss 'emotional' as he praises team for helping cover hidden condition

Matt Goss has heaped praise on the costume department at Strictly Come Dancing who helped him disguise his hidden health condition. The Bros singer was left in tears when he thanked viewers and the team behind the BBC One dance contest for welcoming him back to the UK as he left the competition.

Matt and his professional partner Nadiya Bychkova found themselves in the dreaded dance-off alongside Kym Marsh and Graziano Di Prima during Sunday night's results show. The 54-year-old had to re-perform his jive to All Shook Up by Paul McCartney after failing to impress the judging panel on Saturday evening (October 15) when he and Nadiya scored just 20 points.

Meanwhile, Kym, 46, and Graziano impressed again with their second performance of their samba to Volare by Gipsy Kings. After both couples had danced for a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts, with all four opting to save former Coronation Street star Kym and Graziano meaning Matt and Nadiya were the third couple to be eliminated from the competition, Manchester Evening News reports.

Following his exit, Matt became emotional as he spoke to Strictly co-host Tess Daly about how he felt embarrassed by the country after years away in the states. After Nadiya praised her dance partner and hit back at critics, Matt wiped away tears as he emotionally said: "I'm sorry I'm emotional, I'm an emotional person... I wish my mum was here and my sister was here. You really have... the British public have made me feel really welcome so thank you."

He later spoke candidly about the condition which means individuals are born with missing or underdeveloped muscles on one side of the body. Matt shared he has "one pectoral muscle on the right side instead of two. The lower one is missing, but the upper one is fine and strong."

When Matt was the frontman of Bros, who are famed for their massive hits including When Will I Be Famous and Drop The Boy, he said he used to "pose covering that side of his chest".

But he was full of praise for Strictly’s costume team, who had been “kind and discreet” when it came to outfit fittings during his month on the programme. "It has been one of my favourite things about the Strictly experience," he revealed. "The costume team were relative strangers at the beginning, but from the start, they’ve always been very kind and discreet – it has really touched me," Matt continued.

"If I get a jacket made it will pull on the right side more. I have it tight on my right so it counterbalances my left side. Slim tailoring is good for me and my fashion is determined by my chest shape." But he was keen to make it clear that he was not "disadvantaged" on account of his condition.

Matt is also determined to show children with Poland syndrome that they are just as capable as anyone else. He added to the publication: "I'm not disadvantaged, and I want kids to know that. I am going to look at creating some kind of charity to build confidence, to show kids with the syndrome they can achieve everything in life."
