Strictly Come Dancing audience under fire from viewers at home for 'ruining' show

Strictly Come Dancing viewers at home accused the studio audience of 'ruining' Saturday night's show, with their 'annoying' habit, which was particularly obvious during Molly Rainford's performance.

For the first time since 2019, the new series of Strictly has been able to have a full audience in the ballroom every week, having had restricted crowds in both 2020 and 2021 due to Covid restrictions. But, while seeing the contestants get to dance in front of their friends, families and fans every weekend has been great to see, those in the studio on Saturday felt the wrath of many people trying to enjoy the programme from the comfort of their own sofa.

Having now been in the bottom two three times, Molly, best known to TV viewers as CBBC icon Nova Jones, was hoping to avoid the same fate as she and professional dance partner Carlos Gu performed a tango to Billie Eilish hit Bad Guy. But, as soon as the music kicked in , the studio audience started clapping, meaning that the live band and singers were somewhat drowned out by the noise.

And it took just seconds for the viewer complaints to start flooding in on Twitter. One fumed: "The clapping along on #strictly really is an abomination," with another reacting: "Every dance would be better if the crowd just shut the f**k up during the dance. Stop clapping. Stop cheering. Let them dance. Applaud the effort at the end."

Taking things further, another irate viewer tweeted: "Ffs #Strictly will you cut off the fucking hands of the panto crew clapping along. It destroys the songs and destroys the dance, it's making strictly really painful and labouring to watch!!"

Aside from the online criticism of the clapping during the performance, Molly and Carlos' tango went well for them, with them getting an impressive 35 out of 40.
