Strictly bosses 'considering major shake-up with two stars in the mix for new role'

Strictly Come Dancing is thought to be in the running for a major shake-up, with bosses reportedly lining up two celebrities for a new role.

A source has claimed that a celebrity couple will be cast to compete against one another on next year's series, which would see the lovers battle it out for the glitterball trophy.

Presenter Emma Willis and her musician husband Matt are said to be in the running to appear on the competition after they were forced to pull out of negotiations for the recent series of the BBC show.

"Strictly are desperate to get a celebrity couple on the show and Emma and Matt were in negotiations for the last series.

"It was virtually a done deal but then Matt was cast in the theatre show 2:22 A Ghost Story and they had to back out.

"Strictly would love to have them back on board for next year’s show and Emma and Matt have said if they can make it work they would jump at the chance," an insider told The Sun.

The source added that Strictly bosses are "always looking at ways to keep the format fresh" and fell in love with the idea of having a famous couple competing.

They said if Matt and Emma are unavailable, "the Strictly booker will be looking at other famous partnerships".

Representatives for Strictly declined to comment on the claims.

This year’s Strictly was won by wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin and his professional partner Jowita Przystal. The pair beat Helen Skelton, Fleur East and Molly Rainford in the tense final.

Speaking about what the show meant to him, Hamza was in tears as he described its importance.

Through tears, he said: "Words cannot describe how I feel right now. I want to thank one person in particular."

He turned to his professional dance partner and told her: "You are an angel disguised as a human being."

The Strictly winner continued to say: "Thank you to everyone who voted for me. This is the best thing that has ever happened to me."

Jowita emotionally added: "Just so you know, anything is possible. He’s the proof anything is possible."
