Stretford and Urmston by-election staff plan for postal strike

Trafford council has organised drop-off points for by-election postal votes because of to the postal strike. Voters in the Stretford and Urmston by-election can drop off their postal votes in locations throughout the constituency if they are concerned that their vote might not get delivered in time.

The by-election takes place on Thursday, December 15 following MP Kate Green's decision to vacate her seat in Parliament. However, postal strikes are due to take place on Thursday, December 1; Friday, December 9; Sunday, December 11; Wednesday, December 14 and Thursday, December 15.

Sara Todd, acting returning officer, said: “It’s important that everyone is able to vote and that their vote is counted. Therefore, we urge people who have a postal vote, to return it as soon as possible.

“As an added precaution, we’ve identified secure locations where people can drop off their postal ballots to make sure every vote is counted.”

Voters can drop off their postal votes at the following locations:
• Stretford Library, 10am to 4pm
• Partington Library, 10am to 4pm
• Urmston Library, 10am to 4pm
• Limelight, 10am to 4pm
• Sale Waterside, 10am to 4pm
• Trafford Town Hall, 8am to 6pm

The locations are open from Monday, December 5 to Friday, December 9, and then from Monday, December 12 to Wednesday, December 14. Voters can also take their postal vote to their polling station on polling day and put it in the ballot box. Polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm on polling day.

Postal votes and polling cards will be sent out shortly. Anyone wanting to have a postal ballot has until 5pm on Wednesday 30 November to submit their application. Details of how to apply are available on www.trafford.gov.uk/postal-voting
