Street sealed off after petrol bomb thrown at home in targeted attack

A street was sealed off after a petrol bomb was thrown at a home in a targeted attack.

Emergency services rushed to Sunbeam Road, in Old Swan, after the fire service received a 999 call at 6.57pm reporting a fire at a home. Once a fire engine arrived at the scene they found damage to the window of a terraced home on the road.

Merseyside Police were called to the scene after it was reported the damage was caused by a petrol bomb being thrown at the property.

A large cordon was put in place on the road while police started investigating the incident. Pictures from the scene showed huge cracks in the front window and black smoke damage.

No injuries have been reported to police, who are treating the incident as a targeted attack.

Chief Inspector Jason Crellin said: "These are the early stages of this investigation into what initially appears to have been a targeted attack. I'd like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone in the vicinity who saw this incident or anyone behaving suspiciously around this time to speak to our officers at the scene or contact us directly or anonymously.

“Thankfully it appears that nobody was injured but the risk to any occupants and neighbours is clear to see, and we're determined to find and remove those responsible for this reckless act from the community.”

"Contact us @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 885."

A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews were alerted at 6.54pm and on scene at 6.57pm. On arrival, crews found damage to a window frame but the fire was out on arrival.

"MFRS crews completed a home fire safety check before leaving the scene with Merseyside Police at 8.47pm."
