Street names for new Lanarkshire development have been confirmed

Street names at a new housing estate in Hamilton will be called after trades that worked in the former factory that was situated on the site.

The new development at the former Phillips factory will see 163 homes being developed with appropriate infrastructure.

Councillor Mark McGeever (Hamilton West and Earnock), posted the proposed names of streets in the new estate to allow residents to have their say before plans were confirmed.

Residents contacted the council’s planners with their thoughts and potential alternatives and officers took the feedback on board.

Locals considered naming streets after people who worked at the factory over the years, but as there will only be five streets, only a small number of workers who made contributions would be recognised.

Another alternative put forward by residents was to name the streets after trades and occupations done by workers at the factory which reflects the history and work done at the site.

The new proposed names of the streets are Lampmaker Drive, Steelman Crescent, Tenter Place, Puddler Court, and Hewer Lane.
