Street Fighter 6 is the first game in the series to introduce a battle pass. It's not in the game just yet, following a delay from Capcom but here's what we know about it.
Street Fighter 6 – being an online-focused game in a post-Fortnite world – unsurprisingly, has a battle pass. Capcom had been radio silent about this before the release of the game, with the news coming out of the Street Fighter 6 tips menu. However, when the game launched on June 2 the battle pass was nowhere to be seen outside of a message in the game's menus saying that it was currently unavailable.
Because of server downtime during the week, Capcom has announced on the Buckler Boot Camp website that it has delayed the launch of the Early Summer Vibes Battle Pass from it's original June 9, 2023 release date.
It's set to include two tiers; a free and (presumably) paid premium tier, each with their own rewards. These are separate from the Street Fighter 6 Year 1 Ultimate Pass and Year 1 Character Pass which are set to bring new characters to the game over the next year.
Street Fighter 6 Battle Pass: release date
The Street Fighter 6 Battle Pass 'Early Summer Vibes' was supposed to release on June 9, however Capcom released a statement on its website announcing a delay.
"Currently, network instability is affecting all online features. Due to the instability, we are delaying the start of the Early Summer Vibes Fighting Pass that was planned for June 9th. Once the new start date is decided, we will make another announcement. The cause of the network instability is currently under investigation, and we appreciate the patience of our players as we look to fix this issue."
The Early Summer Vibes pass is set to be in game for three weeks according to the original schedule. It's unknown when the next Street Fighter 6 Battle Pass will begin after the Early Summer Vibes pass is finished.
Street Fighter 6 Battle Pass: price
The Street Fighter 6 Battle Pass premium tier price is currently unknown. However, if we had to speculate we don't imagine it'll be too pricey (at least for the first one).
For example, a battle pass in Fortnite costs around £6.49 / $7.99 / AU$11.95, but those passes last for around three months at a time. With the Street Fighter 6 Battle Pass lasting for only three weeks, we think (and hope) it'll be fairly cheap. We'll update the price once we know, but given the battle pass release date is so close, it won't be long before we have those details.
Street Fighter 6 Battle Pass: rewards
We won't know the full batch of rewards available in the Street Fighter 6 Battle Pass Early Summer Vibes until it launches, but thanks to the image on the in-game tip about the battle pass, we've seen some of the rewards already (although these could just be placeholders).
For the free tier we can spot two character rental tokens which allow players to try out DLC characters once they're available, as well as what looks to be a sticker or club icon.
For the premium tier we can make out the following items:
- An arcade machine
- Two bags with a question mark on them
- An emblem
- Titles or profile colours
- A music icon
Some of these are self explanatory, like the emblem and the titles. Presumably the music icon unlocks the classic Street Fighter tunes that were promised pre-launch for the Gallery mode and World Tour jukebox. The mystery bags are... well, a mystery (although if we had to guess it's probably some gear for your avatar).
The tip promises that "There are plans to introduce Premium Rewards with even more extravagant offerings sometime in the future" which could presumably refer to character costumes or stages, although Capcom saying that these offerings are coming 'in the future' presumably means such extravagant rewards won't be in the first battle pass releasing this week.
