Streaming Hits Record High: 7 Shows Draw Over 1 Billion Minutes

Record-breaking week with 7 shows surpassing 1 billion minutes of viewing

In the ever-evolving world of streaming, the week of Jan. 15-21 proved to be a monumental one. Nielsen's streaming charts recorded a significant milestone as seven titles surpassed 1 billion minutes of viewing, a feat never before accomplished in the four-year history of these charts. The previous record stood at six titles, which had occurred on four separate occasions, including just two weeks prior.

Topping the charts was the beloved children's series, 'Bluey,' which garnered over 1.5 billion minutes on Disney+. The show's endearing characters and captivating storytelling captivated young audiences, securing its position as the overall number one streaming title for the week.

Meanwhile, the original series 'Reacher' reclaimed its spot as the top original show, amassing an impressive 1.23 billion minutes on Prime Video. It dethroned the previous week's leader, 'Fool Me Once,' which experienced a significant decline of over 50% in watch time, amounting to 1.06 billion minutes.

Netflix's heist movie, 'Lift,' saw a 19% week-to-week growth, accumulating a noteworthy 1.04 billion minutes of viewing. Additionally, popular shows such as 'Young Sheldon' (1.16 billion minutes), Netflix's docuseries 'American Nightmare' (1.12 billion minutes), and the long-running medical drama 'Grey's Anatomy' (1.09 billion minutes) also crossed the billion-minute mark.

Another notable entry was the former NBC series, 'This Is Us.' After being added to Netflix, the drama experienced a surge in popularity, garnering an impressive 929 million minutes of viewing. Similarly, the Emmy-winning show 'The Bear' re-entered the rankings, amassing 391 million minutes following its successful night at the Emmys.

It was a groundbreaking week for Peacock as well, with two original series making their way into the top 10 for the first time. The unscripted breakout hit, 'The Traitors,' garnered 402 million minutes of viewing, while the highly acclaimed 'Ted' secured 429 million minutes.

It's important to note that Nielsen's streaming ratings only encompass viewing on TV sets and exclude minutes watched on computers and mobile devices. These ratings solely represent U.S. audiences and do not include viewership from other countries.
