Strathaven futsal stars aim to shine in Spain at World Championships

Three Strathaven Dynamo AFC Futsal section players have been selected for the Under 14 Scotland squad heading to Spain in September for the International Futsal Alliance (IFA) World Championships.

Connor Peacock (14), Andrew Hall (13) and Olly Miscandlon (12) – who also all attend Strathaven Academy - were selected after three rounds of trials organised by IFA Scotland, which attracted the best Futsal players from across the country.

They will now all represent Scotland at the prestigious International tournament to be held in Blanes near Barcelona from September 12-16.

All three play for Strathaven Dynamo AFC Futsal section, which originated about four years ago from the club’s 2008 team and achieved great success in a short period of time.

Frank McGraw, Chairman of Strathaven Dynamo AFC, said: “What a wonderful achievement for Connor, Andrew and Olly to be selected for the IFA Scotland Under 14 squad, everyone at the club is very proud of them.

“We are also delighted at this healthy representation of Strathaven Dynamo players in a 13 man Scottish squad and are very excited about how their selection will inspire and encourage more of our players to think about taking up futsal within our club.”

The Dynamo Futsal section now incorporates teams from four of the club’s age-groups, with the majority of the players also playing with the Dynamo football teams, but players from other clubs are also made welcome.

Andrew and Olly currently play with the club’s 08 football team, while Connor now plays at Bellshill Athletic.

All three have been training with the Under 14 IFA Scotland Futsal squad at West Lothian College to prepare for the tournament, which will feature teams from across the globe including Spain, Australia, and the USA.

Futsal is currently becoming more and more popular in Scotland and Strathaven Dynamo AFC are one of the few grassroots football clubs with their own designated futsal sections, as many of the clubs which exist or start-up are stand alone futsal clubs.

The trip is entirely self-funded and the Scottish contingent as a group and all the individual players seek the support of family, friends, clubs and businesses, to make the trip possible.

Connor, Andrew and Olly all have bespoke JustGiving pages where people can donate to their participation – including strips, kit, travel and accommodation.

There are also options to sponsor the whole group and anyone who would like their company name on the teams strip, should visit https://sponsor scotland.ifafutsal.com for details.
