Stratford Station temporarily evacuated after ‘fire alarm alert’

Stratford Station was temporarily evacuated on Wednesday morning as emergency services responded to a “fire alarm activation”.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Stratford Station is currently closed whilst the London Fire Brigade investigate a fire alarm activation within the station.

“Trains are not stopping at Stratford Station at this time.”

The incident had caused confusion among some commuters, with one asking: “What’s going on at Stratford Station? No one being let in, any idea when it’ll reopen?”

The incident was resolved within approximately half-an-hour, with the station reopening at around 10.30am.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Crews responded to a fire alarm at Stratford Station. Firefighters investigated the cause of the alarm, and determined there was no fire. Our crews have now left the station.”

The evacuation caused disruption to Greater Anglia services between Stratford, Meridian Water and Bishops Stortford.

Other services that would usually serve Stratford were also required to run non-stop. London Overground services were temporarily also unable to call at Stratford.
