Stratford shooting: Man fighting for life after he is gunned down in front of motorists on busy street

A man is critically injured in hospital after he was shot on a busy east London street.

The victim, 25, was gunned down in East Road, Stratford, in front of terrified motorists.

His attacker fired at him at just before midnight on Monday.

Police and paramedics were scrambled to the scene and treated the victim at the scene before he was taken to hospital where he is still fighting for his life.

Investigators believe passing drivers could have key dashcam footage which can help in the hunt for the shooter.

Detective Inspector Mat Freeman, who is working on the investigation, said: "We know that when this happened there were members of public and vehicles driving nearby at the time.

"Did you capture anything on your phone, or on your dash cam if you were driving?

“Any piece of information, no matter how irrelevant it may seem, could be crucial in piecing together what happened."

As part of the investigation forensics officers have been at the scene while officers have carried out door to door inquiries.

A police statement said: "We are appealing for witnesses after a man was injured in a shooting in Stratford.

"Officers were called at 23:59hrs on Monday, 22 January to reports of a shooting in East Road, E15.

"A 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with a gunshot injury. He remains in a life-threatening condition.

"His family have been informed."
