Stranger Things's Jamie Campbell Bower celebrates 7 and a half years of sobriety

Stranger Things star Jamie Campbell Bower opened up about his past 'active addiction' as he celebrated 7.5 years of sobriety.

The actor, who played Vecna in the Netflix show, revealed things got so bad he 'ended up in a hospital for mental health'.

And now, Jamie took to Twitter to share his journey with fans and said he is 'so grateful to be where I am'.

He tweeted: "12 and a half years ago I was in active addiction. Hurting myself and those around me who I loved the most. It got so bad that eventually I ended up in a hospital for mental health.

"I am now 7 1/2 years clean and sober. I have made many mistakes in my life."

Jamie added: "But each day is a chance to start again. Atone for mistakes and grow. For anyone who wakes up thinking “oh god not again” I promise you there’s a way.

"I’m so grateful to be where I am, I’m so grateful to be sober. I’m so grateful to be. Remember, we are all works in progress."

Fans rushed to the comment section to show their support for the Twilight actor and share their own experiences.

"To assume someone is the same person they were a decade ago is wild. I’m sure millions aren’t even the same person they were a year ago," one proud fan commented.

"I’m glad you’ve grown so much & I can’t wait to see you in more things. It gets better."

Another added: "i love you sm jamie, proud of you."

"Bless you for encouraging us to reach for lifelines when we are drowning. Bless you for being among them," one tweet read.

Jamie, who also starred in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, previously opened up about quitting drugs in a 2019 i-D interview.

"I’m in recovery, so one of the first things that they teach you when you’re in recovery is to be super honest about what it is that you’re feeling, like guilt, shame, fear, sadness, whatever it is," he shared.

"The most important thing is, and it’s the hardest thing to do, is just express exactly what it is that you’re feeling."
