The last couple of months have been an exciting time for Stranger Things fans. First, there was the weeks-long suspenseful build-up to Season 4, then the actual release of volume 1 of the new series on May 27, and then what has seemed like an excruciatingly long wait for volume 2.

Now, news about what audiences can expect with the upcoming release has been revealed. Fans can look forward to two film-length episodes dropping at the same time on July 1. The first, Episode 408, will have a runtime of 1 hour, 25 minutes. The second, Episode 409, will have a runtime of 2 hours, 20 minutes. That is nearly four hours of the fantasy final extravaganza!

As well as this, first look images of the finale episodes have been shared with viewers, and it’s enough to get even the loosest fans excited. Each screenshot shows wildly different scenes in the upcoming episodes, which seems to indicate that audiences can look forward to a major adventure.

There is one scene where Eleven and Dr Brenner are in a sci fi looking space. There is an intimate momet between Max and Lucas, and there is another scene where members of the gang, including Nancy, Dustin, Steve, Eddie, Robin, Erica and Lucas seem to be pouring over a map. In another scene Joyce and Jim Hopper are lined up in a dingy looking room.

What will epsiode 408 and 409 contain? What will happen to our favourite characters? And why do Joyce and Hopper look so exhausted? We can only give our best guesses, but it is seriously exciting business.

The final episodes have been created by The Duffer Brothers, who also directed Episodes 401, 402, and 407.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in June Matt Duffer said, “We wanted the whole season to feel like everybody is in jeopardy. And we felt like that was something you couldn’t really do as well when they were these cute little kids. But now, you know, everybody’s life is on the line.”

“I don’t want to spoil anything. But I will say, I think when fans reach the end of season 4, they’ll see more clearly than perhaps with previous seasons, where season 5 is headed. But again, there’s some big reveals still to come,” said Duffer.

The series began in 2016 when some of the characters, such as Millie Bobby Brown who plays Eleven, were as young as 12 years-old.
