A restaurant where bad manners are not only rewarded but also encouraged is opening in Sheffield.
Karen’s Diner is an Australian chain which will be opening as a pop-up in the city.
The self-confessed rude restaurant says on its website: "We hate good service. Rated 1* by us.
"At Karen's you will be greeted and waited upon by rude waiters who in return are expecting you to give it full Karen.
‘A place where you can complain until the cows come home because we literally don't care.’
The tongue-in-cheek restaurant is clearly having fun with its diners. It will be rewarding anyone whose name is Karen with a free drink, although ID is required.
This is a dining experience that you most probably have never tried or thought existed.
The food might be great but the service is ungrateful - on purpose. Karen’s Diner doesn’t take kindly to Instagrammers or food reviewers.
Their website says: "This is the anti-Google review diner, a place where having 100k on Instagram gets you a naughty sticker rather than a free meal."
This video from the restaurant's Instagram page is packed full of wait-staff being rude, including serving with a smirk, throwing menus onto tables and whispering behind patrons' backs.
The UK menu is currently unavailable to view, but diners will be in for a rude awakening and can enjoy dirty American burgers, fries, shakes, cocktails and more.
To give diners an idea of what to expect at the Sheffield eatery, items on the original Australian menu include Karen’s Best Breast, Karen’s Got Real Beef, The I Want To See The Manager Karen and Karen’s Thick Shakes.
Who exactly is Karen?
According to Wikipedia, Karen is ‘a pejorative term for a white woman perceived as entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is normal. The term is often portrayed in memes depicting white women who use their privilege to demand their own way’.
