Story behind building on busy Nottinghamshire road that some thought was little house

Residents on a busy Nottinghamshire road have explained the purpose behind the small building that commuters mistake for a tiny home. Neighbours on Farndon Road have shared that the little building is actually a Severn Trent plumbing station, but due to its design and brickwork they can understand why some driving by may think it's someone's house.

Retired Neil Harrison, 57, of Farndon, said: "I know that it's there, it's just the Severn Trent building. It has been there since we have been here, which is ten years. I've always known it was Severn Trent."

A Newark resident who did not wish to be named said: "I go past it all the time when I go to work or into town but have never paid much notice. It's just one of those things that's there."

Tessa Durham, 40, used to live close to the building in Newark but has since moved to Farndon itself. She said: "I've always just thought it was Severn Trent.

"We lived here for about seven years and nobody ever asked us about it." She said that people thinking it could be someone's home "is a bit weird" but understands the nearby trees and shrubs can cover the signs depending on which way someone is driving.

The small building is set just off the main busy road and is roughly the size of a room. It has some odd, mixed brick work and a black door.

A woman in her forties from Newark who did not wish to be named said: "I see it all the time. It's been always been there and I've lived here for 12 years. Why wouldn't people know that."
