Stormzy releases star-studded music video featuring likes of Usain Bolt and Louis Theroux

Stormzy has released a cameo-packed music video for his new single ' Mel Made Me Do It,' featuring celebrities including Louis Theroux, Usain Bolt and Jose Mourinho.

The title of the song is a reference to Stormzy's long and close friendship with stylist Melissa Holdbrook-Akposoe, also known as Melissa’s wardrobe, who appears in the video.

The 10-minute video also sees the grime star appearing on a fictional talk show co-hosted by Jonathan Ross and Zeze Millz. They also interview Louis Theroux and Dina Asher-Smith.

Former Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho features under an extravagant chandelier as Stormzy delivers the line: "I prefer not to speak like I'm José."

The line references Mourinho's famous post match interview quote "I prefer not to speak. If I speak, I will be in big trouble," which has gone viral many times on social media.

The final scene features cameos from black British pioneers from different generations who have created a name for themselves, including footballer Ian Wright and singer Gabrielle, all dressed in white.

Michaela Coel narrates a powerful and emotional monologue - written by Wretch 32 - on the influence and strength of black history and its future.

"Today we speak about foundation," she says. "Many great black influential giants have touched people from soul to soul throughout many generations. I need to remind you this is not phase but this is phase one."

It also features Zeze Millz, Jonathan Ross, Louis Theroux and Dina Asher-Smith (Youtube)

The newly-released Mel Made Me Do It marks Stormzy's first solo single in more than two years, following the release of non-album single Still Disappointed backin January 2020.

He released track Flavour - with Loksi - later that year and has since been a featured artist on songs, most recently appearing on Dave's track Clash, released in July last year.

Ian Wright also appears in it (Youtube)

There had been speculation earlier this year that Stormzy - whose real name is Michael Owuo Jr. - was "pulling out all the stops" for the accompanying video for his comeback.

It was reported at the time that he had line-up a number of celebrities to appear in the music video, which was said to have been filmed in London a few months ago.

Gabrielle features in the video too (Youtube)

Stormzy's last album - the chart topping Heavy is the Head - was released in 2019. It followed his debut Gang Signs & Prayers in 2017, and his third album is due later this year.

Mel Made Me Do It was released earlier today (September 23), with the music video shared yesterday. The track has already attracted praise from fans and critics.
