The scariest thing about Melbourne's 48-point NRL win may have been their reaction to it.
The Storm had just notched a 12th-straight defeat over Brisbane on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium, their 60-12 victory a club record against the Broncos and just the second time the hosts had conceded that many points.
While Craig Bellamy was quick to distract from next week's NRL blockbuster against the Roosters with the suggestion of a few celebratory beers, the coach was tellingly tempered.
"We still know we've got a bit of work to do," he said after their historic 10-try mauling.
"There's twists and turns that can happen from week to week, especially this time of year, that can impact you in a positive or negative way."
The win followed a 16-0 shut-out of ladder-leaders and defending champions Penrith last week and continued their resurgence after four consecutive losses had Bellamy wondering if he had the answers.
Their form ahead of the penultimate regular season round would suggest he did.
But captain Jesse Bromwich resisted the invitation to label their Friday night demolition a statement to the other title challengers.
"It feels really good; we went through that month that was pretty tough so to string a few performances together at this time of year is good," he said.
"I don't know if it's a big statement; I don't know if we defended as well as last week, but we certainly attacked pretty good."
The side will likely change as finals near, with Felise Kaufusi a chance of returning from personal leave to face the Roosters next week.
He could slot back onto the right edge, where prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona has enjoyed free reign over the last fortnight.
Brandon Smith was impressive starting at lock while Jahrome Hughes made a successful return from a shoulder injury in the halves and Cameron Munster still saw time at fullback in a two-pronged approach with Nick Meaney.
Bellamy said all those things could change, depending on their own mindset and the opposition, in coming weeks.
Winger Xavier Coates (HIA) was taken from the field after copping a stray knee and could be in doubt, while Tyran Wishart (ankle) made just one run before he too limped off.
