Tropical storm Hermine will bring intense rainfall and a risk of flooding to the Canary Islands.
Holidaymakers are being warned that the weather event could ruin their plans with many flights back from the island cancelled. Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said that over 175mm of rain could hit the islands according to the latest weather models.
He tweeted: "The remnants of tropical storm Hermine are expected to hit the Canary Islands with some intense rainfall and risk of flooding.

"One weather model is showing over 175mm of rain between today and Tuesday for Tenerife! If you are on holidays there please be aware."
The regional government has cancelled school on the islands for today as a precautionary measure. It was originally meant to hit the islands as a tropical storm but was downgraded on Sunday to a tropical depression by the US National Hurricane Centre.
