Storm Franklin: Met Office hour by hour forecast as snow and 80mph winds hit Wales

Wales is braced for yet another battering, this time from Storm Franklin.

The weather system, which is set to arrive Sunday evening, has prompted another yellow weather warning for wind, this time covering the whole of Wales.

To help you plan we have spoken to the Met Office to put together a break down of when the bad weather is going to hit Wales.

Midday

Through the start and middle of Sunday it will be a wet and windy start though there will be occasional breaks. It is going be pretty bleak for everyone though the wind gusts won't be as strong.

There is already some snow fallen in Mid Wales between Newtown and Llandrindod Wells.

3pm

By 3pm the weather warning will be well underway with strong wind gusts especially in costal areas in the south.

Every single part of Wales will see heavy downpours at this point.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Typically it's pretty mild but that is a bit academic with the wind, we see a cold front come across from the northwest into northwest Wales via by pm this afternoon, and then sweeping southeast to clear the southeast of Cardiff by about 5pm this evening."

9pm

By 9pm there worst of the rain will be gone (though there will still be rain) but strong winds will still be in place and will be increasingly strong in the north of Wales.

into the early hours the center of the storm moves across Scotland and the southern flank will being the worst of the wind meaning North Wales could see 70mph gusts.

There will will also be snow above 350m.

A Met Office spokesman said:" It will be quite windy at times 50 to 60 miles an hour, but potentially 70 in one or two exposed areas, especially as the front comes through.

"The winds actually pick up a bit especially across the north of Wales. into the early hours tonight. The storm center of Franklin moves across Scotland overnight and to tits south we will get the wind. This will ramp the wind up in the north of Wales.

"Certainly going into tonight, the focus is more towards the north for the worst conditions but across the whole country's it is still going to be very blustery. Obviously structures will be weakened from Eunice as well so there's more vulnerability to impacts, those trees can be weakened."

Monday morning

There will be a gradual improvement throughout the morning but there will be showers and unsettled weather throughout the week.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Andy Page said: “Following the significant impacts of Storm Eunice on Friday, Storm Franklin will bring further high winds for many late on Sunday and into Monday, although not on the same scale as Eunice.

“Coastal areas of Northern Ireland, especially on that north coast, will get the strongest wind gusts, which could be around 80mph in a few places. Amber and Yellow Wind Warnings have been issued, and people should remain cautious ahead of the system that will bring 50-60mph wind gusts for much of the UK from late on Sunday and through Monday.”
