Storm Eunice: Tributes to ‘loving’ father, 23, killed by tree

A “loving” father who died when a tree fell and crashed into a truck has been named,

Jack Bristow, 23, was one of at least four victims of 122mph Storm Eunice on Friday.

A 40ft tree fell on to the roof of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter pick-up in Old Odiham Road, Alton in Hampshire.

Emergency services rushed to the scene.

Father-of-one Mr Bristow, the passenger, was sadly pronounced dead just before midday.

His friend, the driver, remains in hospital with serious injuries.

A mourner wrote on Facebook: “Not what I wanted to wake up to this morning, a very good friend for years been taken by the storm yesterday! Shock isn’t even the word.”

“Jack...you helped me in a dark place and I will forever be grateful to you! Rest in peace.”

Another friend added: “It’s hard to find the right words to say. Jack Bristow always had a smile on his face.

“A great lad with a big heart. Always happy to help others. He will be missed by so many of us.”

Family and friends have set up a GoFundMe page in memory of Mr Bristow who was “loved by everyone he met”.

At least three others were killed amid the severe conditions in the UK and Ireland on Friday, and a gust of 122mph provisionally recorded at the Needles on the Isle of Wight would be the strongest ever in England, if verified.

A woman in her 30s died after a tree fell on a car in Haringey, north London, on Friday afternoon.

In Netherton, Merseyside, a man in his 50s died after debris struck the windscreen of a vehicle he was travelling in.

A council worker clearing debris was killed by a falling tree in Co Wexford, Ireland.
