Storm Eunice: Red alert issued for Dublin coasts with warning of 'cyclonic variable winds'

Met Eireann has issued a Status Red Marine storm warning for Dublin coasts and other coastal areas around the country tomorrow ahead of Storm Eunice.

The alert will be in place from 00:30 to 12:00 tomorrow and "violent storm force" winds are expected.

The warning is in place from Howth Head to Roches Point to Erris Head and on the south Irish Sea.

Met Eireann said: "Cyclonic variable winds, veering northwesterly will reach storm force 10 or violent storm force 11 at times overnight and on Friday morning on coasts from Howth Head to Roches Pt to Erris Head and on the south Irish Sea."

Storm Eunice will roll into the country overnight into Friday, hitting the south west first before hurtling towards Dublin.

Dangerous, cyclonic winds will reach speeds of 80km/h with coastal flooding set to cause chaos.

Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange wind alert for the capital, valid from 3am until 11am on Friday.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow warning for wind, rain and snow is in place for the whole of Ireland from 1am until 3pm on Friday.
