Storm Eunice latest hour-by-hour forecast for Friday with expected 90mph winds

A series of weather warnings, including a rare red danger to life warning, are in place across Wales as Storm Eunice rolls in.

It has been predicted to be one of the worst storms in 30 years with winds that could be as high as 90mph. Power cuts are already being reported.

It was the calm before the storm on Friday morning as Ireland bore the brunt but forecasters have warned people not to be fooled. You can track all the latest live with us here.

BBC Wales weather presenter Behnaz Akhgar said on Friday: "It is one of the worst forecasts I have ever had to deliver. Some people might be looking out the window and think it is not that bad but it will be."

These were the latest wind gusts at 8.50am:

Here is an hour-by-hour forecast for Friday.

9am

The red weather warning for parts of south Wales started at 7am this morning.

Gusts of more than 77mph have been recorded in parts of Wales and forecasters are warning these speeds will build during the morning.

The red warning says: "Extremely strong west to southwesterly winds will develop over southwest England and south Wales early on Friday.

"Widespread inland gusts of 70-80 mph are likely and up to around 90mph near some coasts with dangerous conditions on beaches and seafronts. Winds are expected to ease from the west during the late morning."

BBC Wales weather presenter Behnaz Akhgar said: "I was trying to explain to somebody who messaged me to say: 'Well, it's not that bad.' I explained that the warning started at 7am but that doesn't mean we're going to see the worst of it because we have a window a couple of hours before and a couple of hours afterwards of when the worst of the wind will be."

10am

Just before 8.30am Behnaz Akhgar said: "The storm is currently over Ireland, so I would imagine in the next maybe hour or two is when we'll really start to see the full impact of the the winds.

"My advice is don't look out and think: 'Oh, it's not that bad so I'm going to go out'. Don't go out."

The whole of Wales is covered by an amber warning that is in place from until 9pm on Friday night.

It says: "Extremely strong winds are expected to develop over southwest England early on Friday before spreading north and east during the day. Inland wind gusts widely in the 60-70 mph range but up to 80mph in a few places.

"Around coasts of west Wales and southwest England gusts of 80 to 90mph are possible. Winds are expected to ease across western areas through the afternoon and eastern areas during the evening."

11am

BBC weather presenter Matt Taylor said that during the morning the highest winds will be to the west before they track eastwards where there is another red warning in place for eastern England and London.

There are also concerns about flooding around the coast and along the Bristol Channel.

He told BBC Breakfast on Friday morning: "The Enviornment Agency has issued a severe flood warnings as we expect to see a tidal surge push up as the winds go more westerly, pushing the water up the Bristol Channel and lifting it quite markedly."

12pm

Wales could experience winds of up to 90mph by lunchtime on Friday.

The red warning for Wales ends at 12pm but winds are expected to remain strong.

1pm-3pm

The winds will start to ease towards the west but an amber warning remains in place and winds will remain high through the afternoon.

Forecaster Behnaz Akhgar said: "We've got rain to start the day but it will clear through pretty quickly and this storm will go through pretty quickly as well. So we are expecting the main impact of the storm mid-morning and then by this afternoon it will ease off slightly so less of a danger to life later but still will have severe gales through the afternoon as well.

"More windy conditions to come tomorrow with outbreaks of rain over the weekend."

These are the temperatures expected at 3pm.

6pm-9pm

The Met Office forecast for Wales says: "Wintry showers largely easing off through the evening. Remaining windy for much of the night with gales along coasts. Feeling cold with a widespread ground frost and some icy patches. Minimum temperature 0°C."

The amber warning ends at 9pm but there are yellow warnings in place for parts of Wales on Saturday.
