Storm Eunice: Edinburgh weather forecast for the weekend as yellow warnings issued

Edinburgh is expected to see wintry showers today and the Met Office and BBC Weather have updated their forecasts for the weekend.

A yellow weather warning for wind has been issued for much of Scotland on Sunday February 20.

Stretching across from the west, right up to the Highlands and through the central belt, windy conditions could cause travel disruptions.

The Met Office warn: "Very strong winds are expected across parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland and also some Irish Sea coasts.."

On Sunday (February 20), wind gusts are expected to pick up speed to 44 miles per hour.

This comes as strong winds of over 60 miles per hour are forecasted down south around South Wales and the South West of England as a rare red weather warning was given on Friday.

The public were urged to stay indoors to ride out the storm.

While weather forecasters warned Storm Eunice could be the worst in 30 years, Edinburgh's forecast appears more mild in comparison.

Looking to the weekend, the Met Office forecasts for Saturday February 19: "Many places will have a dry day with some spells of sunshine. Wintry showers across Dumfries and Galloway at first. Maximum temperature 5 °C."

And for Sunday to Tuesday: "Bright with showers on Sunday these turning wintry later. Early showers on Monday then mainly dry, windy. Rain for a time on Sunday."

After a stormy and wintry past few days, the skies will clear and Edinburgh will be dry on Saturday with sunny intervals but ice could form as temperatures struggle to reach over 5C.

While the Met Office reports it to be dry for the whole day, BBC Weather expects showers to begin from 2pm to 4pm.

It will only reach 5C at the highest, according to the Met Office and will 'feel like' -3 in the morning.

Heavy rain is forecasted for Sunday starting from 3am and will continue throughout the whole day.

It is expected to feel like storm conditions as wind gusts are set to rise to 41 miles per hour by 9am, reach 44 by 7am and remain in the 40s until 1pm.

From 1pm on Sunday, wind gust speeds will drop to 38 miles per hour and remain in the late 30s range.

The Met Office predicts that from 8pm sleet showers will begin at temperatures drop to 3C.
