'Stop playing with the kids, it's not fair on the fans': Noel calls Liam a 'coward' and tells him to call him about reunion

Noel Gallagher has branded his brother Liam a 'coward' and 'disingenuous' for repeatedly getting fans hopes up over a potential reunion. Speculation of an Oasis reunion ramped up at the weekend after reports emerged of potential plans for the band to reunite at Knebworth in 2025.

A source told The Sun that Liam's agents Wasserman had put forward the plans to play at the 125,000 capacity venue for at least four nights. It would be a repeat of their iconic 1996 gigs where the band played in-front of 250,000 over two nights, and would be their first gig together since their split in 2009.

Liam, 50, returned to Knebworth in 2022 and took to the stage in-front of 170,000. Tickets for a reunion show at the Herefordshire venue would 'sell like hot cakes', according to The Sun's source.

However, comments made by Noel, 55, about his brother on talkSPORT this morning (May 23) would appear to dampen hopes of a reunion any time soon. Noel was a guest on the White and Jordan show where he seemed to confirm no contact had been made between representatives of the two Manchester Rock'n'Roll stars, labelling his brother a 'coward' for fuelling the reunion rumours.

Jim White asked: "Are you going to get back with him?"

Noel said: "Well I've put it out there, he should call me. He's forever going on about it, you'd have thought by now he'd have some kind of plan.

"If he's got a plan he should get someone to call, he doesn't have to speak to me, he won't speak to me I know he won't speak to me, coward.

"So, he should get some of his people, his agent, to call my people and say 'look this is what we're thinking'. And then we'd have a conversation about it.

"Until then, he's a little bit disingenuous."

Noel added: "The thing with Liam is, you read these things every day he's saying, 'it's happening, it's happening,' but he gets peoples' hopes up, all over the world. Then I get asked about it, and I have to look like I'm dropping a big foot on it."

"Call me. Call me, lets see what you've got to say." White adds: "Why won't he?"

"I suspect that he doesn't want to do it but he just likes saying that he does want to do it. He's got his own thing going on, he's selling out Knebworth and all that kind of thing, what does he want to share it with me for?

"I'm cool with what I'm doing. He's smashing it, why be disingenuous with people, you know it's not happening, and if you've got a plan give me a ring."

White: "So you're open to it?" Noel says: "I'm open to a phone call, for a conversation. Other than that, stop playing with the kids, it's not fair on the fans, it's not fair."

Both Liam and Noel, who hail from Burnage, are set to release solo albums soon and are each due to go on tour next year. Oasis explosively split-up in 2009 following a backstage fight between Liam and Noel before they were set to take to the stage at a festival in Paris.

Back in April, Noel told reporters that he did not expect Oasis to reunite any time soon - dismissing suggestions the team would reform to mark the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Definitely Maybe, which was released in 1994.

He said: "In the Sony archives we’ve found tapes dating to those sessions. We thought they were lost, but they were mislabelled. They are wonderful versions of those songs, some acoustic versions."

He added: "There won’t be a tour, we won’t come back to play them together."

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds are playing at Wythenshawe Park on August 26, supported by Primal Scream and Future Islands.
