Stonehouse groups benefit from generosity of village's freemasons

Four Stonehouse groups benefited from the generosity of the village’s Masonic Lodge.

Representatives from the Hope Cafe, Trust Jack Foundation and the Avondyke Scout Centre were all handed cheques for £500 while Royal Albert youth football sides received a total of £600 from members of Stonehouse’s Lodge Union.

The bumper donations were all thanks to Lodge members raised thousands of pounds thanks to their annual sponsored walk.

The Lodge’s Right Worshipful Master Michael Mathew, who presented the cheques to the volunteers, said: “We were delighted to welcome the organisations into the Lodge.

"These groups do fantastic work in the village and we hope our donations will help them to continue to thrive.

“Our sponsored walk is always well attended and we get great support not just from the brethren but from their families and friends who come along on the day.

“Over the past few years we have donated to a wide range of groups in Stonehouse and that is all down to the hard work of our members.”

Those picking up the cheques were quick to thank the Lodge members for their support.

One of the Hope Cafe volunteers, Myra Pate, added: “We were delighted to have been chosen and this donation will allow us to carry on with peer support for those who need additional support and various other activities such as massage therapy, pottery classes and reading groups.”
