Stolen car tracked to Adelaide car wash was towed by vehicle containing drugs, police say

A man will face court after a stolen car was tracked to an Adelaide car wash, where it was allegedly found on the back of a trailer towed by a vehicle found to contain drugs and cash.

The Subaru had earlier been parked in the garage of a home at Aberfoyle Park but the owner — who was out at the time — became aware of the theft because of a tracking device showing it was on the move.

The owner notified police about 7:45pm on Sunday, and provided patrols with live updates on the car's movements through Morphett Vale in Adelaide's south, where it came to a stop at the corner of Panalatinga Road and Solace Drive.

Police arrived at the scene, and found the car — which was on a trailer — had been towed by a blue Holden which was parked at a car wash.

A police dog assisted in the arrest of the driver, a 41-year-old Morphett Vale man, as other patrols arrived to help secure the vehicles.

"PD Rusty was the first to arrive at that location and found that the stolen Subaru was on a car trailer," Senior Constable Kate Dawson told ABC Radio Adelaide.

The man has since been charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and trafficking a controlled drug, after police allegedly found a "trafficable amount of methamphetamine and almost $2,000 inside" the Holden.

He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.

Police said the stolen Subaru has been returned to its owner and had also seized the trailer, which is also believed to have been stolen.

They have asked anyone with further information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
