Stoke-on-Trent paraglider dies after jumping off 6,300ft mountain and crashing into rocks

A thrill-seeker has died after jumping off a 6,300ft mountain and reportedly crashing into rocks. The 62-year-old was later pronounced dead in hospital after doctors were unable to revive him.

The paragliding tragedy happened on Tuesday, October 4 near the popular resort of Oludeniz where the man, Frank Lally, was on holiday in Turkey. An investigation has been launched into his death with North Staffordshire Coroners' Court is still waiting to be informed following the tragedy, reports StokeonTrentLive.

Frank, from Stoke-on-Trent, was an active member of the Peak Soaring Association (PSA) and The British Hand Gliding and Paragliding Association (BHPA) is currently investigating the tragedy.

In a social media post, PSA member Mark Bosher said: "It is with great sorrow to inform you that, while flying in Turkey, Frank Lally had a tragic accident and died. Pam, Frank's wife, has asked that we inform all his friends and the flying community and thank everyone who has sent messages of condolence at this difficult time.

"I know I speak for everyone in wishing the family and his friends our heartfelt sympathy and condolences. Frank was a leading light within the flying community, both in the PSA committee and as a coach for the two local clubs.

"The BHPA has been informed and a formal investigation will be held. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him."

The BHPA released a statement that said: "We have been informed of the accident and will be carrying out an investigation. Turkey is a very popular destination for paragliders.

"We are waiting for the coroner to establish contact with the local authorities over there and then we will be carrying out a full investigation. It could take many weeks but we will be looking into how this happened."

The Foreign Office is aware of Frank's death with a spokesman stating: "We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities."
