Russell Martin has confirmed Nathanael Ogbeta sustained an injury on his first training session with Swansea City.
The 20-year-old was withdrawn as a precautionary measure late on during his final outing for former club Shrewsbury Town against Wimbledon on January 29.
He joined Swansea on transfer deadline day for a fee in the region of £300,000 as Martin finally landed the left-sided defender he had been so desperate to sign.
But he is yet to feature for his new club, and head coach Martin has stated the left-back is struggling with a hamstring issue.
"It's really frustrating. He got injured in his first session with us. He was carrying something from Shrewsbury, thought it was OK and he has just irritated it," Martin said.
"Hopefully we will know a bit more in the next few days. Hopefully it won't be too long because we are really keen to get him out on the pitch."
The news comes after what was a hugely disappointing night for Swansea at Stoke City.
The visitors were comfortably beaten 3-0 by the Potters at the bet365 Stadium on Tuesday night on what proved to be dour viewing for the 346 members of the Jack Army who made the trip to Staffordshire.
Such were the number of player exits during the January transfer window, Swansea's squad has appeared increasingly thin since deadline day - with suspensions for Ryan Manning and Ryan Bennett along with Kyle Naughton's injury doing little to ease matters.
Ogbeta, Manning and Naughton were all unable to feature at Stoke. Beyond those three, players from Swansea's under-23s were the next in line to feature in a squad that even saw Yan Dhanda - who had to be kept last month amid interest from Crewe Alexandra and Burton Albion - return to the bench.
The statistics at Stoke made for grim reading.
Swansea had just one effort on target and they were dispossessed on 14 occasions.
A total of eight players who featured for the visitors ended the contest with a pass success rate below 70%, the lowest tally of which saw a tired-looking Cyrus Christie complete just 46.7% of his passes.
Even at the midway stage of the contest where both sides had 11 players on the field, the Swans had seen just 40% of possession - which is chalk and cheese from what has been the case throughout the term so far.
And Christie's struggles at Stoke were as understandable as they were telling.
He is one of several players - with fellow January signing Hannes Wolf being another example - who have been plunged into the deep end and consistently required to churn out performances due to the lack of squad depth Swansea's squad currently possesses.
Martin also promised after the loss to Stoke that his side will look "physically different" next season.
But with 17 matches left to be played over a three month period between now and May, it appears as though the possibility of consistency in terms of positive results remains slim.
There will no doubt be more ups and downs, although Martin always stressed that that would be the case in his debut campaign at the club.
