Stockport Gin named 'Best in Britain' at prestigious awards

A Stockport gin distillery has picked up a prestigious award at The Gin Guide Awards 2022. Stockport Gin’s Twist of Lime Edition was named Best in England and Best in Britain at the spirit awards.

The gin, created by Paul and Cheryl Sharrocks at their Stockport Gin distillery in the town centre, achieved exceptional scores from every judge, on what was a larger panel than previous years. The Twist of Lime Edition is a London Dry Gin, which is distilled with fresh lime peel to give a crisp, zesty citrus gin.

Cheryl said: “We are absolutely delighted, and a bit in shock, to be told that we produce the best gin in Britain! Just knowing that people love our gins makes everything we do worthwhile.”

Paul added: “This is the 3rd consecutive year our gins have won awards at The Gin Guide Awards, and the 2nd in a row where multiple gins have won, but to be crowned Best in Britain is incredible.” The award-winning gin started its life as a limited edition, but became so popular that Paul and Cheryl continued to make it.

As well as securing the award for their Twist of Lime gin, the pair’s Sustainable Edition was also crowned a winner in the same category. Meanwhile, their Pink Grapefruit and Pink Peppercorn Edition was highly commended in the Flavoured Gin category.

The husband-and-wife duo founded the distillery in 2019 in response to the limited availability of local gins in the Stockport area. Giving up their respective careers in architecture and hairdressing to launch the brand, their first gin was distilled in their garage at home, but since then they have expanded and opened a distillery in Stockport Town Centre.

Located at 19B St Petersgate in Stockport, the location is not only home to the distillery but also a gin shop, which offers a range of gins, glassware and bespoke hampers. Gin lovers can also take advantage of the distillery tour, which gives visitors a sneak peek ‘behind the scenes’, while enjoying a G&T or two.
