Stockport bar launches 'first-of-its-kind' bubble tea shop with over 10,000 flavour combinations

Mixologist Neil Garner is bringing the bubble tea craze to Stockport with the launch of Cherry’s Boba Shop. Garner, the owner of local bar Cherry Jam, will offer over 10,000 flavour combinations at the new shop, which is now open opposite Red Rock cinema.

Cherry’s Boba Shop, which officially opened its doors this weekend, is said to boast the widest range of bubble tea flavours in the UK. The tea-based drink, which originated in Taiwan in the 1980s, typically consists of tea accompanied by chewy tapioca balls - “boba” or “pearls”.

Neil Garner said: “The team behind Cherry Jam are inviting you to “fall in love with boba” with our award-winning cocktail ‘Cha-Tenders” mixing up delicious bubble tea cocktails and boba mocktails. We are so excited to introduce our incredible menu to Stockport’s families and teens - they have been created with the same flair as our cocktails and taste absolutely amazing.

“If Willy Wonka made boba tea, this shop would sell them all. What’s more, the shop itself is gorgeous and makes a great place to go for a pre or post-cinema treat for the town’s hip young crowd.”

The bubble tea menu includes vast array of flavours including Strawberry Shortcake, with jasmine green tea, strawberry, golden shortbread and strawberry popping boba, and Banana Split – a mix of banana milk tea, hazelnut and cream, topped with rainbow boba and hundreds & thousands. The Elvis, with peanut butter jelly strawberry milk tea, and Minion Banana Bang - pineapple fruit tea, banana boba and minion banana Jammie dodgers - offer some quirkier takes.

Garner continued: “My team has over 25 years of experience in drinks making and we’ve been working on the menu for over a year after trying out every boba shop in Manchester and London. We absolutely believe our drinks are the best of the best!

“Our Cha Tenders undergo a rigorous training program and know over 250 recipes by heart. We want to create a community of Boba lovers in Stockport and create the best looking, tastiest, fun drinks around.”

The concept is the second venture for Garner, a former World Bartending Champion and Britain’s Got Talent performer. He opened his independent cocktail bar, Cherry Jam, in May 2021, which specialises in creative cocktails, including drinks inspired by celebrities and local landmarks.

One cocktail at Cherry Jam pays homage to Stockport band, Blossoms, while the 192 provides a subtle nod to the infamous bus route. Some of the drinks at Cherry’s Boba Shop borrow from the cocktail bar’s menu with varieties such as Cherry Mojito with lime and mint tea, fresh mint and cherry popping boba, and Popstar Martini, with passion fruit and vanilla fruit tea and passion fruit popping boba.

Cherry’s Boba Shop is located at Princes Chambers, 2 Brown Street, SK1 1RS and if open now.
