Stirling social media favourite shares new cost of living recipes

A Stirling nutrition coach with almost a million online followers is hoping to help people eat well while coping with the pressure of the cost of living crisis.

Fraser Reynolds’ recipe reels have been a viral hit among hungry viewers, with more than 900,000 people following him on Facebook and thousands of followers also flocking to his Instagram and TikTok channels.

The 31-year-old works alongside pal Neill Miller at In vs Out Nutrition in the city and runs classes to help people lose weight, alongside his work on social media where he shows off delicious recipes including sweet potato and chorizo soup and Thai sweet chilli pizza.

His latest projects include working with supermarket giant Aldi on a healthy day of recipes to mark International Fitness Day – and he has also brought out a series of recipe ‘e-books’, with the latest focusing on air fryer recipes.

Fraser told the Observer: “The meals came around because I was walking around the supermarket one day and I realised how expensive it is and while people were being given calorie totals to stick to, they didn’t know what to be eating.

“I just started posting recipes up on social media and everything has really evolved from there.

“We do the budget meals, supermarket sweeps and things like telling people how they can get a number of meals out of a £20 shop, but also doing it in a way that’s fun for people.

“I do have a bit of a carry-on and people warm to that. It’s all 30 to 40 second videos and I try to give everything in that in terms of information.

“I’ve got a lot of reach on Facebook because a lot of the big players weren’t really posting on there and the reels have given me an audience of about 900,000 so that’s a big reach.

“It’s all really exciting and I never really planned for any of it.”

The former Bannockburn High pupil previously worked as a PE teacher and a gym owner, before jetting off travelling to Australia and south-east Asia for three years.

A call from Neill to work alongside him and pick up qualifications in nutrition brought Fraser back to Scotland and since then the focus has been on reaching as many people as possible with the message of cheap, exciting and healthy eating.

The latest recipe e-book focuses on helping people keep up with a balanced diet despite pressure on household budgets, as well as important messages such as batch cooking.

“The air fryer e-book is for people who are trying to save gas and are worried about turning their ovens on,” Fraser added.

“One of the key tips is showing people how to prep meals for the week, freezing meals and batch cooking, but also keeping the recipes exciting with high nutritional value.

“All of the calorie totals are given out and I try to keep it as convenient and simple as possible.

“We show off the receipt for the shopping done on recipes for the week or the day to help.

“I’m not a qualified chef, just someone putting stuff together that people are enjoying from my mum’s wee kitchen.”
