Stirling MP gives thumbs up to city station modernisation plans after tour

Stirling MP Alyn Smith was given a tour of the city’s railway station recently as its £5m modernisation programme continues.

Mr Smith heard about the upgrade as he was guided through the station by ScotRail senior project manager John McDonald and external relations manager Iain Hall.

The scheme, set to be completed next spring, includes the creation of a pedestrianised plaza around the station, a new car park entrance, new toilets and upgraded customer waiting facilities for platforms two and three.

There will also be an additional 150-cycle parking spaces as well as a small maintenance area.

Mr Smith said: “This redevelopment project is a huge boost for Stirling’s visitors and commuters, and stands testament to the importance of good public transport infrastructure in our race to net-zero.

“I was particularly impressed with the integrated works to the surrounding cityscape, ensuring Stirling Rail Station remains interconnected and accessible to a whole range of users and transport options.

The work is due to be complete in Spring 2023. (Stirling Observer)

“This transformative project is a fantastic vote of confidence in the future of rail, not just here in Stirling but for the whole of Scotland.”

Senior project manager John MacDonald added: “This is an exciting development which will modernise Stirling station with a more people-focused entrance as well as enhancing the area around the station. Not only will the completed project foster an active travel culture by encouraging cycling, walking, and wheeling, it will also promote train travel as we maintain our aim of delivering more sustainable transport options.”
