Stirling dad in charity dive with sharks to raise £40,000 for son with rare genetic disorder

A Stirling dad hopes donors will dip into their pockets when he takes part in a fundraising dive for his son this summer.

David Scougall’s son Mylo has a very rare genetic disorder and the family are aiming to raise £40,000 to fund an adapted bedroom with wetroom at their Braehead home.

Little Mylo has UNC80 hypotonia and his speech and motor skills are limited.

If he is to walk in future, the family have been told, it will only be with the aid of a walking frame.

Dad David is to swim with rays and sharks during the fundraising dive at Deep Sea World, North Queensferry, on June 26.

The 32-year-old, a food and beverage manager at Stirling Highland Hotel, will be in the tank for 25 minutes after receiving diving training and a safety briefing

David said this week: “I’m feeling nervous, but looking forward to it.

“I hope I can raise quite a bit of money. We still have a bit to go to reach our target. We need about £15,000.

“Mylo loves the song ‘Baby Shark’ so it’s very much the right event for him.

“The most difficult moment I think will be diving into the tank for the first time and being face-to-face with the sharks.

“I’ve never done anything like this before, and never thought I would, but I’d do anything for Mylo.”

As a result of his diagnosis, Mylo moved from St Ninians to Braehead with David and mum Cara along with sister Charley after finding a home which could be converted for his needs.

Stirling Council have provided a £20,000 grant towards the total £60,000 cost of the specially-designed facility and so far the appeal has raised just under £26,000.

Stirling housebuilder Robertson Homes contributed £1000 and other donations have come from a variety of fundraising events and individual donations.
