A Stirling dad has blasted the care received by his 10-month-old daughter at Forth Valley Royal after being forced to make three trips to receive an X-ray.
Grant Polley and wife Jordan first took little Brooke to the accident and emergency unit at the hospital three weeks ago after noticing that she was refusing to crawl on her left hand due to a small fall the previous day.
After waiting three hours at the unit, Brooke was eventually seen by a doctor who raised concerns about giving the youngster an X-ray due to concerns over exposure to radiation.
Following the doctor’s advice, the pair then left the situation for a week but made a second visit after Brooke’s condition failed to improve.
However, after another lengthy wait at A&E, the pair were left amazed medics still refused to X-ray Brooke - and asked them to consult their GP over the issue instead.
It was only following a referral from their GP and a third visit to the hospital that Brooke was finally given the scan - which revealed a double fracture to her left arm.
The handling of his daughter’s care has left Grant - who lives in Raploch - furious and seeking answers from hospital bosses.
Grant said: “My daughter has been in pain for two weeks now.
“To have to go up three times before we got the necessary help in my view is completely unacceptable.
“Brooke has now been left for two weeks without a cast on her injury and in pain.
“We’re still waiting for the return appointment for her cast to come off and there is the potential for Brooke to need another X-ray and an operation on her arm if it has not healed properly.
“I’m just frustrated, angry and upset by the whole thing and I want to make sure that it doesn’t happen to any other parents in our position.
“I sent an email of complaint on Saturday and I didn’t get any response from them until an email on Tuesday morning asking for more details on Brooke and her case.
“I’ve never had an apology from a doctor involved with this and I don’t think I would accept one anyway to be honest.
“I just can’t deal with the fact that nothing was done about it for two weeks.”
In response, an NHS Forth Valley spokesperson said: “We are sorry to learn that this family are unhappy with the care provided to their daughter.”
They added: “We would encourage them to contact the Patient Relations Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital so they we can look into the issues raised.”
